About

Glascoed Building Surveying is run by James Keelan, a Chartered Building Surveyor and registered valuer. James started his Surveying career at one of the large multi-disciplinary consultancies in Bristol before moving to private practice in London, South Wales, and the National Trust for Wales. He has worked across the British Isles on a wide range of buildings. Having spent much of his early years with his Grandparents in Carmarthenshire he has an affinity with the vernacular architecture of Wales. His earliest memories include exploring disused buildings.

Buildings need to be looked after correctly if they are to keep occupants comfortable and healthy. All too often well-intentioned but inappropriate work results in the unintended consequence of making a problem worse. James has a particular interest in the use of sustainable materials and renewable energy. Glascoed Building Surveying provides a professional, personal and collaborative service.

What we have been up to recently:

  • Level 2 and 3 Home Surveys on a wide variety of property including a Grade 2* Listed Coach House

  • Conservation area planning consent for the external refurbishment of a cottage

  • Planning permission or conversion of a barn range into holiday let accommodation

  • Listed Building consent for the installation of a renewable energy system on a Grade 2 Listed cottage adjacent to a Grade 1 Listed Church
